No, he came in 8th, but that's great for not racing for 10-years. Tell your partner congrats.
He qualified 14th or 15th, so he moved up decently, until his tires just went out so he was battling the car the rest of the race. He also said during practice and qualifying the car was a pig, but the crew managed to dial it pretty well for the race.
