How on earth do the MPG conscious Europeans do those long intervals with 4 quart sumps?

doesn't Toyota recommend 0w20 for this application? They sell a 0w20 at the dealership that is supposed to be excellent.

No, the 2010 Prius (different engine) can use 0W20, but for the 2004 to 2009 model Prius 5W30 is the recommended grade.

5w30 is the correct oil, but I have seen much better results than these using Mobil 0w20 for 15k. Also my Prius suffered from fuel dilution which Blackstone did not detect so I switched to RLI 0w20. I also tried Penzoil Platinum 5w20 and it worked pretty well. You should probably try Pennzoil Yellow bottle 5w30 for 5k and see if you get results like Bill in Utah gets in his 2007 Corolla. My numbers for my Prius were almost as good as his at 5k. At 15k on Mobil 1 0w20 my Blackstone report had iron at 12 ppm and aluminum at 5 ppm and all other wear metals 1 ppm or less.
