I love my Mac stuff. Same quality level as Strap-On & Matco. I've had the best luck with the Mac tool salesman over the years though as compared to the other 2. YMMV.

Are they Mac EDGE? I can't say enough positive things about Mac EDGE, they remove damaged fasteners that would be impossible to remove with most other tools.

And they do hold up well. I never had a problem with cracking or chrome flaking off.

Have you looked at SK, Proto, Wright, Williams, or Armstrong?

You may also try checking out your local pawn shops. At the one I visit, the above named brands sell for less than snap on or craftsman.

If you want some affordable US made sockets, perhaps you should check out MasterForce (Menards house brand) or Allen (seen these at Menards and Fleet Farm). IIRC they are both made by Apex. (Same Company that Made Craftsman sockets)

Great advice.

The new Mac tools are great if you want to pay near Snap On price for China and Taiwan made tools. The old stuff I would put right on par with Snap On though. I do agree with Trav that I have broke more 3/8 drive Snap On sockets than any other brand but I have also put a Craftsman on and rounded the bolt head off after breaking the Snap On socket. What I do like about Mac is that they have great sales. So I do still buy some of their products but if the price is comparable at all I will always choose Snap On.

That statement there is not gonna fly. Not all MAC tools are from Taiwan/China. Just because one or two part numbers are from Taiwan/China, doesn't mean the whole entire tool line is from Taiwan/China. All of the MAC sockets pictured in the catalog in the metal trays are USA. Most all their wrenches are USA. Extensions USA. Hard handle screwdrivers USA. Traditional 30 tooth ratchets USA. Most pliers are USA. You gotta get familiar with their line and know which part numbers are from where.

My premium Mac sockets are made in the USA, and so are many other their other tools. You will never know where something is made unless you read the package.

I find many premium tool companies make their premium sockets in the USA, and their discount line in Taiwan.

Then read the packaging and find out for yourself. My new set of long reach pliers by Mac, made in China. The Mac edge sockets I bought Taiwan. The ball and socket style universal sockets a coworker bought, Taiwan. I did recently buy some adapters from Mac that were USA. I just won't buy their stuff at full retail anymore but like I said they have some good sales and it's lifetime warranty. Not all Snap On is USA either but the website lists country of origin for Snap On.

That's what I like about Snap On and Bluepoint. There's a distinct seperation between the lines. What I really miss is the old reasonably priced USA made Craftsman stuff. Wow, I have just become that guy talking about the good old days. I really am getting old!

Yeah jaws line up well. Some of the smaller pairs don't have teeth they are just smooth inside not too thrilled about that. For the price I'm happy with them.

Well at least you're happy with them, that's the main thing. As far as American
made nose pliers go, Proto, Armstrong, JH Williams, and SK has them.

There's one MAC nose pliers that I actually like a lot and that's the MAC P92S. I don't
know if they're still USA or not, but the ones I have are. They're the only 9 inch nose
pliers made in the world. I like them the most for their long handles.
