Can you substantiate that belief?Amsoil OE is a GrpIII base stock oil while M1 0w40 is a GrpIV I believe. Both oils should get the Job done for your application
Thanks, I figured as much but did not know of the existing threads. Thnaks againCompare how? A listing of typical values on a PDS isn't a measure of quality comparison.
Nevertheless, here are a few previous threads on this topic (or relevant) to get you started. Many are rife with nonsensical arguments where unwarranted conclusions are being drawn from inadequate information:
Driven DI40 vs. Amsoil Signature 0w-40 vs. Mobil 1 FS 0W-40
Any insight into which one of these oils is the best to use? Driven doesn't really publish much data on their oils which makes me hesitant. Car is a 2019 Camaro SS, heads, cam, the whole 9 yards. I've pulled both spec sheets and both of these European 0W-40's seem very similar. I like both oils and I use both depending on the mood I'm in at the time. Well, actually I probably use Mobil1 more often as Walmart is 4 miles from my garage and Amsoil is 30 miles from my garage. Here is the next oil I will be trying. The last run of Amsoil's European 0W-40 for 11k performed very well considering the GDI high fuel dilution. The TBN for this oil is 12.5, and Viscosity Index is 184. Attached is the spec sheet.bobistheoilguy.comAmsoil finally has a 0w40 Signature series oil!

Well, I have been looking into becoming an Amsoil dealer, as their product is not all that readily available in all the grades locally, and I wanted to get my hands on those filters!!! I'm sorry if this has been discussed - I searched and didn't come up with any solid answers. Search was bogged down with comparisons. I just purchased a car (1996 Z28 w/39k miles) that has been running on Mobil 1 for it's entire life (since 1k miles). I put Amsoil in my other vehicles. Lots of internet stories going around about Mobil1 being cut back to group 3 oil, not sure how acccurate that is. Since I use Mobil1 0w-40 I was wondering if it is mainly group 4 oil. I'm wondering which one is generally better for Euro applications. SS is a little bit thicker than Euro. Both seems to be PAO based - but which one has more PAO in formulation? Is there any difference in ZDDP/phosphorus content between SS and Euro? I've already tried SS 0W40 - wonderful oil...bobistheoilguy.com
Most of these are either about Amsoil SS, not OE, or are so old they’re completely irrelevant because both formulations have changed.Compare how? A listing of typical values on a PDS isn't a measure of quality comparison.

Probably. But just as relevant since none are based on any sort of actual performance test as I noted. Most of these are either about Amsoil SS, not OE, or are so old they’re completely irrelevant because both formulations have changed.
That’s the thing, Mobil1 seems to change their formulas around quite a bit with this particular oil…last time I checked it was around 40% PAO, which is pretty impressive to me. I want to run it in my Toyota Avalon, and I just might some day, but right now I tend to chicken out (it recommends 0W20, I use 5W30, but I’m itching to run Mobil1 FS 0W40 in all my vehicles).Amsoil OE is a GrpIII base stock oil while M1 0w40 is a GrpIV I believe. Give the 0w40 a shot let’s say for 1500 miles short interval and pay Attention to sound and mpg etc .That’s the thing, Mobil1 seems to change their formulas around quite a bit with this particular oil…last time I checked it was around 40% PAO, which is pretty impressive to me.
