I guess it's because they're really just toys with much less practicality than standard class singles? The motorcycles of the private aviation fleet.
 
That certainly seems reasonable. In addition, I'd say Congress' requirements that the FAA's alter the medical requirements might start playing a role too. As a medical will no longer be required in many cases. The lack of medical requirements to fly light sport was, I think, one of the attracting features.

The requirements will probably be:

Aircraft specifications: Up to six seats, up to 6,000 pounds (no limitations on horsepower, number of engines, or gear type)
Flight rules: Day and night VFR and IFR
Passengers: Up to five passengers
Aeromedical training: Pilots must take a free online course every two years
Altitude restrictions: Up to 18,000 feet msl
Airspeed limitations: 250 knots indicated airspeed
Pilot limitations: Cannot operate for compensation or hire
