Lesser of 2 evils: Fram or E-core?

The st3980 still has the bypass holes/flap in the combo valve...they haven't fixed it yet anyway.

The 3980 is a filter used on Chevy trucks which have a bypass built-in to the filter mount. The filter does not need a bypass in the filter itself, but these ecores use combo bypass/adbv valves, so there is an auxiliary bypass in these. Not necessarily a bad thing, just another opportunity for a defect to occur (could bypass more than needed..)
We had been told by a resident "expert" it had been fixed...but it has not. Not yet anyway.

For those interested...

The 3980 still has the auxiliary bypass holes as of a couple days ago at my local Wally World..date code on the end was 030405.
Any body ACTUALLY SEEN one that has been corrected yet?

The Champ tech-hotline fellow just told me that bypass was intentional, just part of the design, and was staying that way.
