Anyone familiar with the Kohler courage XT7 smart choke no prime engine? I bought a used one for $20. It is 2-3 yrs old. Looks brand new. Owner said it would not start. Only thing I found wrong is that the jet in the plastic piece on top of the carb was blocked. It runs perfect but it takes 3-4 pulls for it to initially start. Is that normal for these smart choke carbs?

Thats about right. Sometimes (20% of the time), mine starts 1 or 2 pulls. 80% of the time, its 3 or 4 yanks.

The needle valve can corrode very easily. Use blue Stabil all the time in fuel for use or storage....the valve is made with inferior material.

PM if you have needle problems, I can send you a OEM Honda part number that is a near direct swap.

I have a Kohler Courage on my Airens mower and there was a recall for the carb due to corrosion. I got a new carb for free.

I also found kind of a filter inside the gas line near the gas tank. I removed it and added a small inline gas filter that is media based.
