Previous sample:

This is the second sample from this tractor of HPL 15w-40 CK-4 Cold Climate. The previous oil was Northland 15w-40. The HPL has been in the sump for 236 hours and 19 months. Our plan is to run this oil and only change when the UOA says it needs to be changed. With a sump capacity of 28 quarts, it's pretty expensive to change and there is no reason to dump good oil on a rote annual oil change. This oil will be sampled again next fall and should have around 450 hours. Given the very dirty environment Ag machinery runs, the Si is quite low. The JD engine air filtering system is doing a great job.

I just looked at tractor data stats, what a beast. FSM says 500 hours if you were using JD Plus 50 and an OEM filter.

I want a 7 series for my 3.5 acre grass field. I would imagine all the JDs uses Donaldson air filters.

The Fe trending rate from 150 to 236 hours after doing the math looks like at 450 hours you'd be at 50 PPM Fe. The Si has stayed the same for 86 hours... That's great news. If it's anything agricultural products know best it's making sure to use an excellent air filtration system. Your JD seems to be chugging along & ready for more work.

A 7 series for 3.5 acres? haha. My Kubota has Donaldson filters and I have been blown away by how good of a job they do. My outer filter will look like it is completely plugged and I've yet to have an inner filter that doesn't look brand new when it comes time to change...

This oil will have TBN until the Sun runs out of fuel. You'll probably have to decide on some other factor as to when to change it, maybe iron equal to or greater than 150?

I believe you are correct, the TBN is not likely to be the reason the oil is condemned. My swag is it will be soot, but it will take years to get there.
