Hi everyone,
I recently changed the oil in my 2010 XFR jaguar (aj133 supercharged 5.0) to the specific 0W20 castrol. Almost immediatly it developed a very strange ticking sound.
Only on a warm engine, AC on, between 1000 and 1500 rpm. An intermittent quite loud tick coming from under the car, not the top of the engine. These cars are known for rattling superchargers and timing chains/tensioners, but we (mechanic and jag specialist) have checked it 3 times with a stethoscope on every single part of the engine and can't pinpoint it.
Googling, I found a thread on rangerover forums (same engine) where 2 other people had this after an oil change. Sadly no solution posted. But as I got more convinced the oil change started it, I googled on and came across the famous coyote BBQ/typewriter tick. It sounds very very similar and in similar conditions.
Maybe the AJ133 is more Ford then Jaguar would like to admit. (Every part of the engine has foMoCo stamps, but its a jaguar engine according to them).
I'm gonna try the liquimoly ceratec this week as many coyotes benefitted. Just wanted to share this strange coincidence (or is it?!).
Let you know how it goes.
