I hate hail

Bummer. Impossible to control though, so not worth stressing about. It is going to happen.

Every car in my neighborhood recently hit pummeled with hail. My Tacoma? Fine. Neighbor’s Land Cruisers? Fine. Pretty much everything else is dented.

Wow that is horrible. If it ever happens to a car of mine it will only be once. I'd be building a protective cover to drive with, yeah wouldn't look good or help with handling or fuel mileage, but the body would have no hail damage.

All those dimples create small pockets of turbulence. This means the air flowing over the vehicle sticks closer to the vehicle surface and flows off the vehicle further back. So there's a smaller wake behind the vehicle, for less overall drag, making it faster. A free performance upgrade courtesy of mother nature.

I'd leave it as it is.

😁

Yeah, my mom's car got turned into a golf ball, when a hail storm ploughed through here 2 weeks ago.
Shattered the rear lights, and even knocked the number plate off. The whole area was totally devastated.
Trees without leaves, gardens and houses ruined.

I had three hail claims on my Taurus SHO. Got a refreshed paint job with each one. I've had dents came out by themselves on a aluminum trunk deck by sitting in the sun over time.

So, the other day, my son asks me if I can drive him halfway to meet a friend of his. I agree to do so, it's about an hour drive. They were planning on hanging out for the weekend. Thursday afternoon, there is a weather advisory for tornados and hail. I get a bad feeling that we shouldn't go, but, I had already agreed, and it wasn't raining or anything yet, just threatening, so I decided to start out.

Big mistake!

We get about 30 minutes away and it starts to rain, which suddenly switches to marble sized hail. I pull over (I'm on my "very summer" rubber) along with a pile of other cars to wait it out.

Well, the wind picks up violently and then the hail starts to get larger and larger. Finally, it's golf-ball sized. I thought it was going to break a window, but it didn't. Once the cell blows over, I do a U-turn and head home, as there were multiple cells on their way and I didn't want to be caught in another.

I stop over to my parent's place to check for any damage, and there are a pile of dents on the hood:

Of course I'm feeling just sick and not in a great mood upon discovering this.

Next day, come out to check over the rest of the vehicle and see this beauty on the roof:

Go up to the body shop to get it assessed and he points out that EVERY window moulding on the vehicle is dented:

I'm so ******. I should have listened to my gut and cancelled. Our area never received the golf ball sized hail, that went to the west of us. If I had stayed home, I would not have gotten any damage.
Sorry man

PDR got all the dents out, vehicle looks great, EXCEPT, the PDR place (not the body shop) must have had some kid with a dirty bucket washing the vehicle because this is my fuel door:

Body shop will be fixing (buffing out) when it goes back in for the window trim when it finally arrives from Stellantis.
