Is it A M S OIL? With the A M S just being letters, like initials?

Or is it pronounced together like Am-Zoil?

As I understand it, the original name was Ammo-Oil after Al Amatuzio's military nickname "Ammo". Apparently Amoco objected to this, so the name was changed to Amzoil. Pennzoil then objected and the name was changed to Amsoil. Then Amway objected, but Al won that suit.

Since the early fame was made on the Amzoil name, the correct pronunciation has the "zoil" sound.

Are you saying that if weren't for that, we would be pronouncing it Am Soil, with the S sound instead of the Z sound? That would sound goofy to me.

I pronounce it "(h)AM"-soil.

() denotes the h of "ham" being silent.

Ditto.

I guess that is like what we were saying. We were just emphasizing the "S" more. Almost making it into a "Z." Both sound similar, but one is emphasized more.

Am's oil sounds better.

Where are all the Amsoil reps when you really need them?

Now could it be pronounced em-soil. Sort of a silent A thing?

In Connecticut I say Ams oil.
In New York City I say Ams erl.
In North Carolina I say Ams ohl.
