They can help slow some consumption particularly on engines that have valve stem seals that have lost their pliability. They might also help slow some leaky crank seals, but it is in no way going to stop any kind of substantial leaks.
I had a very very slow drip on Forte and tried a few HM oils and a few 'stop leak' products to no results. What actually (very surprised) worked was Ceratec. No more drips. My take is since the leak was very small Ceratec particles plugged it.
