You may get a few hundred people to buy them that are members here, and that is not enough to even be statistically significant. If you want to buy one for peace of mind, or to sleep at night I can understand that, buy the money leaving the country argument is very weak...

No, my basis was that 75%+ of the filters will NOT be made in the USA. If 99% of filters that are bought are made overseas, then the amount going over gets larger. Note my point... $400M is a small amount in the big scheme, but this is ONLY oil filters. Add every pair of pants, shirt, electric gadget, etc., etc., and the number becomes REALLY huge.

I hate to say this but the amount of Americans struggling to make ends meet is growing so fast its scary. Walmarts sales spike when EBT cards are activated on the first day of the month at 12 AM.

You realize it is verging on "perpetual" (negative) motion, right? The more people shop at bargain basement for Chinese junk, the more those companies have market share and price pressure on manufacturing companies. The more pressure, the more the companies have to cut, sending more jobs overseas in order to meet a price target. So more of the laborer type loose their jobs because they get offshored to China. As a result, they need to buy even cheaper, driving more and more products to be made in China.

I would rather buy made in Mexico over made in China, The other day I went to buy a spare air filter and the Fram was made in C It China. I did not buy it. It seems everything is made in China and the consumers pay too much for the made in China products I bet 99% on the people do not care.

Well they can save 3 cents over another item so it is the Chinese one they buy...

52% of my 45,000 filters are made in USA
23% in Mexico
10% Indonesia (we have a lot of used RH drive converted cars here)
The rest come from 14 other countries, primarily England and Germany.

I think that even if you buy chinese filters which cost 16 cents to make over there and ship here for that price it wont make too much of a difference cause it costs 4$ to make the same one here but the two products sell for the same and more profit goes to the states or canada cause of what you pay for the product initially. Numbers are an example but I think we make alot of money from off shore stuff. All those other guys can flog there metals and other resourses for fractions of what we do cause when they run out we will still have an abundance and will get top dollar cause no one else has any. Just my opinion but sounds feasable to me at least.

My Mann air filter is made in the USA:

So is my Purolator PureOne:

Most of the Fit's parts come on the boat from Japan. It's also 95% Japan content. Most of the Buick's replacements also come on the boat from wherever, usually China or somewhere in Asia, despite being assembled in Michigan. I do try to buy US-made when possible. It's hard when ALL the local stores and many online places sell the same junk that's not made here.

If I want a US-made replacement for the Buick, to the junkyard it is!

That is the biggest load of bull [censored] I have ever heard. Wow, where did you get your education? If we ran our own checkbooks like many of the countries do today we would be in jail. You can't spend more than you make. If you do you will end up homeless or in the state pen. Period

These are the made in USA air filters I have at the moment. They have one or two popular equivalents next to them, but some are for dozens or hundreds of applications. (Donaldson #)

Bottom line is, many are made in USA

Good to see some are still interested in buying domestic products.

For our Ford drivers- Motorcraft Air/Fuel/Oil are made state side. **

GM drivers- AC Delco Air/Fuel/Oil filters are made here as well. **

Purolator- Made here too, and should fit about any car. **

** = All the ones I have encountered, And there are more brands out there for sure. Personally, I do like to use domestically produced, OEM brand parts when possible.

Not to hijack, but for those interested in "Made in USA," check this out- http://www.allamericanclothing.com/SFNT2.html

MAny purolater filters made in china

^ Interesting. That's why I used "**" to denote that lsit only included the filters I had encountered. There are a good amount of Purolators still made in the US. Some even here in NC.

A quick check of the box for the country of orgin is way more accurate than going by the brand name.No doubt.

So what about all the people oversees who are buying filters made in USA? Doesn't it all balance out? Should they stop buying USA made filters if people in the USA won't buy the filters they make?

I think that this type of "Beggar thy Neighbor" policies were tried in the last depression and failed miserably...

This is somewhat off topic but relates to some of the conversations above.
I recently went into a hardware store in my part of the world. The man asked if he could help me. I said sure. I've got $10 and would like to buy everything in the store made in America. He chuckled a bit and said you probably want need that much. Almost 10 percent unemployment. Guess where the jobs went.

we are sending our money away.

This is the direct result of Supply Side Economics that was started about 30 years ago. The thought was that if the supply of items we buy got really cheap, then we'd all have more stuff and live better. This has been disowned by David Stockman, among others; he was President Reagan's budget director. The rich got richer while we workers got paid less for more work and have less in our pockets to buy anything. The opposite is Demand Side Economics where we have more money in our pockets and have more demand for goods and services. Not much good to have cheap imported stuff, even of good quality, on Walmart's shelves if our good paying factory jobs are gone and we're barely exceeding minimum wage when we can find work.

Just ordered a Denso for a Toyota, came in Denso box, made in USA by Denso. Really nice thick filtering material, looks high quality, $11.50 no tax and free shipping(with more stuff.) I have no problem with that.
