I would definitely not use silicon based DOT 5 brake fluid for reasons given by mechtech2 and jtaylor.
There is also DOT 5.1 which is polyethylene glycol based just like DOT 3 & 4 so they are all compatible. The DOT 5.1 spec fluid has the highest wet and dry boiling points, and is harder to find.
