Draining the fluid out on a 9-3SS isnt as easy as in most other cars due to the location of the drain plug...

There's a link to the PDS at the bottom of the linked web page:

I've used the Motorcraft DCT fluid in my Mustang GT's MT-82 and it works great, although for summer track day season I switched to the Motorcraft Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid in the link above. The heavier fluid is recommended by Ford for track use in the MT-82 and the DCT is recommended for regular service.

The only things I have actually read that can happen are in certain transmissions a splash lubricated front bearing can fail from a thicker fluid not properly splashing to reach it. The other is rough cold shifts in the morning, but I don't believe any damage results.
Would an ATF really "sling" better?

Out of curiosity I called the dealer for a price on the Motorcraft Dual-Clutch Trans Fluid.

xt11qdc - $32.43 / litre

I don't think I'll be buying any anytime soon.

BMW stock fluid is thin and close to Dex III ATF in viscosity.

For BMW manual tranny calling for ATF, Amsoil MTF 5W30 is too thick in cold climates and 75W90 is way too thick. Both are significantly thicker than the stock BMW "lifetime" tranny fluid.

Royal Purple Synchromax is closer to the stock fluid.

No question that Amsoil makes great fluids but the thickness of MTF aggravated shift pin issues in my tranny at cool temperatures (10C or lower). It is fine for warm weather and might be ok in the cold if you don't have any shift pin issues.

In my BMW I have tried the stock fluid, M1 Dex III, Amsoil MTF, Dex VI and RP Synchromax. I have experienced the best shift quality with the Royal Purple over a wide range of temperatures.

I recommend sticking with something that has viscosity specs close to the stock fluid.

BMW MTF-LT-1 (Stock Original BMW Z3 Fluid)

Viscosity at 40C = 37.5 cSt
Viscosity at 100C = 7.5 cSt

Amsoil 75W90 for manual transmission

Viscosity at 40C = 88.4 cSt
Viscosity at 100C = 14.8 cSt
Pour point = -46C

Amsoil MTF

Vicosity at 40C = 47.1 cSt
Viscosity at 100C = 9.6 cSt
Pour point = -45C

RP Synchromax

Vicosity at 40C = 38 cSt
Viscosity at 100C = 7.7 cSt
Pour point = -54C

Dex III (Mobil 1 ATF Specs)

Vicosity at 40C = 36.3 cSt
Viscosity at 100C = 7.4 cSt
Pour point = -51C

Pentosin MTF 75W80 (meets BMW MTF-LT-2)

Vicosity at 40C = 38.3 cSt
Viscosity at 100C = 7.7 cSt
Pour point = -60C

Amsoil Multi-vehicle ATF

Vicosity at 40C = 38.8 cSt
Viscosity at 100C = 7.5 cSt
Pour point = -53C

Both of those Redline oils are too thick for a manual transmission application that calls for ATF.

Look for something with 100C viscosity under 8 cst.
