It was 30 years ago today that the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior. CNN posted this article about the sinking, focusing a lot on the Gordon Lightfoot song.

I just thought I'd share. I'm sure anyone in the Great Lakes area will be familiar with this topic.

Yep, I have a book on the Edmund Fitzgerald. I also have the song on mp3. I didn't exist yet when she sank but I've read the book many times and I can understand the pain,,,,,,op

Equally sad that we've been exposed to that song for the last 30 years.

I haven't laughed that hard all month, thank you!

I'd have to agree with skunky...it is definitely a nice trip to Whitefish Pt and Sault St. Marie.

As for the Fitzgerald, my step dad always talked about it when I was younger, and I became fascinated by ships and shipwrecks. Pretty much like my 8 year old son who really enjoyed seeing the big ships and museums when we visited there this summer!

I always liked the song. But then I was younger back then. Maybe I'll listen to it now and see.
I saw a special about the ship a few years ago. Pretty interesting.
