As I said, can't speak to your specific application, but 'if' a cartridge filter had a standpipe as the poster alluded to, the concept would be the same as spin on. The nylon centertube would have a solid or non porous area/potion designed to hold the oil in the housing, similar to holding oil a spin on/canister filter after shut down.
But as noted in the link, some sort of adbv or check valve would also be required to keep the oil from draining back.
