Replacing the dented tailgate on my Impreza with a Facebook find replacement. I'm guessing it weighs 40 to 50 pounds which isn't normally too much for me to lift, but it's an awkward shape and would pretty much have to lift it above my head. I'm not twenty anymore and I don't really like asking neighbors for assistance. Decided to work smarter than harder by rigging up some boards to lower and raise the tailgate into position.

First had to loosen the interior side panels so I could disconnect the electrical connectors under the headliner. Then after propping up the tailgate, I disconnected the lift supports.

Then I set up two 2x8 boards as ramps,

Next I removed the bolts holding the tailgate at the hinges,

Finally I slid the tailgate down the ramps,

Installation was the reverse,

Bumper cover replacement tomorrow.

I guess I must be a hillbilly to the core because unless it was leaking or making noise there’s a 0% chance I would spend my own money to fix a little dent like that. I might make an exception if I were getting ready to sell it.
