Changing filter on a Toyota

Never had an issue with my stamped steel filter adapter that I used on my 2002 VW Golf TDI and my 2016 Tiguan, since they have always been torque "properly",
I think it's a matter of force being concentrated in a small area vs. spread over a larger one--when the cap is really tight.

Here's a picture of the carnage:

That's funny. Never had an issue with my stamped steel adapter that I used on my 2002 Golf TDI (oil filter cartridge cap) or my 2016 Tiguan (canister) when they are tightened properly to a torque spec (cartridge filter, 25 Nm) or contact plus 3/4 turn (Tiguan).

Or breaking the plastic nut on the canister on my 2008 Passat (cartridge, 25 Nm)

Any updates from the OP? Did you finally get it off?
She's bringing the car to me this weekend, and in my own garage with all my tools at hand I hope to have better luck.
Yep. Using a breaker bar, it came off with no trouble. Probably could have done that in the first place if I'd just remembered to bring one the first time.
