That's funny. Never had an issue with my stamped steel adapter that I used on my 2002 Golf TDI (oil filter cartridge cap) or my 2016 Tiguan (canister) when they are tightened properly to a torque spec (cartridge filter, 25 Nm) or contact plus 3/4 turn (Tiguan).I think it's a matter of force being concentrated in a small area vs. spread over a larger one--when the cap is really tight.
