I want to dye the Schaeffer #512 with a green or red dye. Mobil had told me in the past to use food coloring to dye their EAL224 hydraulic fluid.

Is this what Schaeffer would recommend? We use red dye in our other mineral hydraulic oils. It is not bio degradeable.

I don't know who told you to use food coloring because food coloring is mainly a water soluble dye.

What you want is an oil soluble dye.

Recommend you contact Keystone and inquire about "Automate Green."

Thanks, I will check into the Automate, the Terrasolve has a green dye added .

Back in about 1998 Toro was only approving the use of Mobil EAL oil for a very few of their mowers , as bio oil was kinda new to our industry. I am not sure whether Mobil told Toro to use food coloring or how it came about. I remember our Toro salesperson at the time telling me "Mobil is saying to use regular food coloring to maintain the biodegradeability" . We used it with no issues for about six years until I switched to my current golf course. It was never a lot.
