We went to the VW dealer on Saturday. The Passat window sticker indicated that the 6 speed automatic transmission is from Japan. Could it be an Aisin?

I asked to see a Passat with leatherette interior and no sunroof. Salesman brought up an SE 2.5 that qualified.

We liked the interior, very nice for the price. The ride was confident and quiet. Steering was nice although it pulled to the right which I assume was just a problem on this particular car.

But the bad news (for us at least) was the go and stop pedals. The brakes put us off, it was like the brake pedal wasn't connected to the brakes. A friend later told me that this is the new trend with brakes just like the electronic throttle.

The go pedal response was troublesome too. It was very unresponsive from a stop (opposite the Forester and Sonata which were overzealous launching from a stop) then picked up some significant time after it got moving. Scarey pulling into traffic.

Our lack of confidence in the stop and go pedal scratched it off our list.
