So after all these years, I finally decided to get a machine to do some of the work for me. Can anyone recommend accessories for this machine? I'm not looking to spend a ton of money, but just get the basics as far as pads, backing plate, etc. My cars have pretty decent paint already, so I don't expect I'll need anything too aggressive. Mild swirling is the worst of it.

Any advice is appreciated.

I have a 3.5" and 5" backing plate and use Lake Country CCS pads. Typically, I use a grey or red for applying final wax coats, white pad for polish and most of my compounding, orange for more aggressive things. A small backing plate is nice to have for headlight lenses, wheels, small areas, etc. A good 99 cent toothbrush will remove most residue off of pads. It's nice to have extra pads of the ones you use the most, so you're not constantly cleaning them and actually get work done.

search eBay for some Sonax brand pads. I was able to get a half dozen polishing pads for around $17 shipped!
