5 year old 21K mile Fram Ultra.

UncleDave,

Nice filter photos.

—————————————————

I got 55K miles on a 4 year old wire backed Fram Ultra 7317 oil filter.
3 oil drain and refills every 20K miles.

100% for sure I will take it to 80K miles and send to Adam for autopsy photos.
Maybe take it to 100K ?

Will be interesting to see the amount of sand inside the filter as this Mazda CX5 is driven in Florida highway construction zone 5 days a week. I also have magnets on this Fram Ultra.

Is the can on that completely protected?

I agonized between cutting it and sending it for efficiency testing to the guy here that ran 4548-12's to see how consumed it was, because I saw crud in my honda filter when I ran HPL cleaner.
Despite a lifetime of 5-7K changes, I was worried I'd have a dome full of sludge, and pleasantly surprised when I saw nada.

There HAS to be contaminant in it I just cant see it.
There is no way a 5.6 V8 towing 8K through the mountain isnt putting out anything.
I'm going to scrape the media lightly to see what might scrape off.

Can is protected by a plastic engine splash shield so no rusting of can.

Ultra is rated for 20K miles, so that's basically what it did.
Yes though many are fearful of going near that because it might clog and start bypassing too much. But that looks like it still lets oil though without much restriction.

I would never just do this if I hadn't worked my way up to it observationally speaking.
Without seeing how much crud in a can you dont know what you are putting out or in many cases shaking loose whats already in there (in my case I do)

With absolutely no goop anywhere in this can, nothing visible in the peats, no metal sparkles in the sun, and little mounds of grit held my the mags - I have complete faith it was fine and could have gone longer.

slight correction to time in service -

5 years 7 months and 1 day....

They basically have ... it's called the Fram Endurance. ;)
Basically yes and it is a great filter I love the job it's doing on my Viper so far, but the original ultra was ever slightly better. It would be great if they could have kept the original ultra running but the Endurance is still an excellent substitute.

Can I get a translation of this chicken scratch ? ?

Just messing with ya UD.

Though your hand writing is getting close to physician territory.

Although you'd never know it from what I scratched
line 8 is actually 1/22/23 110000 5-30+ HPL EC 30.0

On that trans service I wrote drain and fill, but the scribble after is me indicating a pan drop. (which meant gasket and filter as well)

I wanted to see just how much of the transmission was in the pan.

OG Fram Ultra filters for the win.
Indeed! For me, no surprise here. I ran an OG XG7317 32 months, 2 ocis on a Tacoma. After dissection, confident it could have gone farther. That said, based on anecdote pics posted, 'I' wouldn't run current XG even the rated 20k miles.

I suppose some may consider the new Endurance the so-called "replacement" for the OG XG. That said, have to add ~$4 to the OG XG average price. Not near the value for construction the OG XG was.

As for 1 year whichever comes first fci thought, some/many new vehicle warranties have that as SOP. But once out of warranty, with a quality filter, have at it.

Thanks for c&p.
