FWIW, my John Deere has a 19hp Kawasaki V-Twin. I use Mobil1 10w30EP and a Wix 51396. I have very little consumption (3-4 oz) during 75 hr OCI's.

crimsontide, I'm sure that'll be fine ... but I'd have saved my money and gone with conventional oil from the start. It's best to give a new mower frequent oil changes. during its forst 20 hours.

Save the $$$ synthetic oil for when you have really broken in that motor and can go a dozen or more hours on an oil change.

If you're going to use Mobil oil, why not use the Mobil 1 filter? Best filter on the market.

P.S. your John Deere will use a M1-102

I have a 17HP V-Twin Kaw. in my JD and I used Valvoline 10W-30 initially and mostly Mobil 1 5W-30 after that. 0 consumption in a 12 month period. I change it once a year which always ends up being far less than the 100hr recommended changes. I have always used a Wix filter. I'm not using Mobil 1 in my cars anymore and will probably use Castrol Syntec 0W-30 from now on (until my supply runs out).
