My son's 2003 Monte Carlo SS 3.8 V6(90K miles) runs fantastic on QS Defy 5W30. I have used PP, Mobil 1 EP and now Defy. This car runs noticeably better on Defy then the other mentioned oils. I was never a QS fan until I tried Defy 3 OCI's ago... The 3.8 runs very smooth on this oil. Give it a shot. Currently doing 5K OCI's.

I used to have a supercharged 2004 Monte Carlo SS and I ran 5W-30 PYB in it the entire time I owned it and it ran quiet and smooth.

The 3800 used to require a 10W-30 but they later changed it to 5W-30.

I bought it with 87,800 miles on it and traded it in at 100,600 miles. No engine issues at all.

My wife had one for the 3 years we dated, it was also a SS with the 3.8. I put Formula Shell, Mobil s5k, and Carquest in it during that time all in the 10w30 flavor and all ran smooth for 4k ocis. Why were these engines spec'ed for 10w30 anyways?
