Did you run the oil for 17k too? If so how much makeup oil did you add? And if not when did you change the oil?? That filter looks like it did a good job!
Media is wire-backed, which prevents wavy pleats.
To add, the pleat spacing doesn't have to be perfect when the media is wire-backed. A few wide pleats won't matter because the wire-backing will support the media and prevent it from bending and tearing from the delta-p across the media in use.

Ran the oil for 17k. 2 quarts top off. Last quart added at 9k. Less than a half quart consumed from 9k-17k. Tried something different and installed the newer design larger pcv valve as I was noticing consumption whenever the pcv valve was more than 2-3k old and highway driving. Newer pcv valve at 9k into interval.
I do understand that, it's why i said it's not an issue when it might be on others without backing. It doesn't have to fear tearing off the cap like a recent ultra without it.
It was an add-on comment giving more clarification for those who may not understand the purpose of wire backing on media.
Well even though I am not due for an oil change, I recently switched to Mobil 1 High Mileage Full Synthetic and as I been putting the miles on it I am starting to notice an audible difference which some complain about with Mobil 1 on my Chevy.
I just did the oil change on my Toyota after a full 5k interval running the Mobil 1 and switched to Valvoline Full Synthetic High Mileage, so tomorrow I will go ahead and dump the Mobil 1 out of my Chevy early and switch to Valvoline Full Synthetic High Mileage in it as well and grab a FRAM Endurance FE3387A and see how it goes.

A lot of metal in there. Did you do a UOA on this as well?
The metal in the can is likely from him cutting it open, wouldn't hurt to get a UOA to be sure everything is within normal ranges especially running a 17k interval but it is most likely nothing.
Mobil 1 used to be a decent filter until Mann started building the suffix “A” ones a few years back… Price through the roof, quality down the drain. Just like Wix!

I don’t agree that the metal at the bottom of the filter is from cutting open the can, but I could be wrong. It appears to be more like small chunks specs vs strips of aluminum from opening that can that you can see on the oil container.

I really appreciate your C&P. A great test running it for 17,185 miles. Pleats stayed nice and straight and I can't make out any tearing. It looks like Fram's done a good job engineering the Endurance. At $12.97, its got to be the best value in the high mileage class of filters.
The can isn't made of aluminum, but rather steel.
Sent in a sample. Will post in uoa section when it's analyzed. Not sure if it's a lot of metal or not for 17k. I couldnt see them by eye easily but the camera seems to pick them up better and possibly make them look bigger. Will check the media closely when it is wicked dry.
If your engine is shedding any metallic particles, that will be the best way to monitor.
Wicked dry. Impressed with composition of this filter. It was tedious to remove media and well designed. Small deposits in between pleats. Not sure if I would call deposits hard or soft because they are small difficult to focus on, feel grimey in hands. When removing media the deposits would jump out of the media valley so the pictures of larger sections of media do not reflect that each individual pleat valley had similar deposits in each.
