Gonna be buying one thursday, love the feel and sight picture.
Anything to look out for?
Reccomendations?

Gonna be using RemOil for cleaning, any better suggestions?

You are gonna want the extended mag release and to either mod or get a bolt hold release plate thing to drop the bolt once locked back

Nice rifles, but I have always fancyed marlin 795s they seem to have everything the 10/22 needs except Customability

Rem Oil isn't much of a cleaner. I use a solvent to clean and then oil. Hoppe's #9 is my preferred solvent.

Hoppe's #9 works fine, Rem oil afterwards is fine, id suggest a scope (the rifle comes with the rail) and CCI ammo is pretty solid through the ones ive played with owned. the bolt release and magazine releases are nice touches but not necessary. what is you'r intended purpose for this rifle ? 10/22's are probably the second most customizable 22 on the market next to the Colt AR.22

I like the stainless 10/22 with composite stock. It's quite weather resistant, corrosion proof and generally a very good firearm. I have a Nikon Prostaff, 3-9x40 rimfire scope and an aftermarket laser on mine. I attached a very small sure fire flashlight to the scope using some spare scope rings. Seems silly to outfit it like this, until you live with it for a while and realize the setup simply works. It's a really good "all around" rifle.

a high velocity ammo should be sufficient to cycle the 10/22. my son's 10/22 does very good with it, now that having been said, i have run a few subsonics and hypersonics when in a pinch with a vermin, but generally the high velocity should be all you need.

obviously rifles from same makers can have subtle differnces, so you will have to experience yours and see how it does.

Buy small 50 round boxes at a time until you are comfortable with the ammo velocity and brand, so you don't get stuck with a brick of something you may not use. Unless, if you have several different .22's like myslelf where I can generally shoot all velocity ammo's.

I don't shoot it much but the 10-22 sure is better than the Winchester 290 it replaced.

The factory bolt release sucks. Once it locks back, you have to push up on the bolt release button which is super annoying. Cool thing is, you can fix it in less than 5 minutes with a hand file or dremel. They also sell new automatic bolt releases if you would prefer to go that route. It's so easy to modify I just modify them now myself in 5 minutes. I consider this mod a definite need.

10/22's get filthy inside. While I have pretty much stopped using Breakfree CLP and transitioned to better non-solvent gun lubes, I think Breakfree CLP is the ideal lube for a 10/22 as it will breakup the carbon over time as you use it. Breakfree CLP has a solvent in it (that most gun lubes don't) and does a fine job of keeping my 10/22 running. So that is my lube advice for the 10/22.

You can go much longer between cleanings since the solvent component of the lube breaks up the carbon gunk and flings it away as you are firing.

My 10/22 likes CCI Velocitor ammo. It's the most reliable ammo in mine. It is also the most consistently accurate.

I regularly use Remington's bucket o cheap bullets and other brands with good results too. But the Velocitors really come out on top in my 10/22. Very few "fliers" and zero duds.

10/22s are my weakness. Not new stuff. Stopped in my LGS yesterday and on the rack was a 1979 walnut stocked carbine in excellent condition. She's a beauty!

If you're interested in shooting well look at tech sights http://www.tech-sights.com/ruger3.htm and a trigger job. You can get drop-in hammers that lighten the trigger or you can get a decent trigger job for $35 from http://www.brimstonegunsmithing.com/coll...2-trigger-work. Life is too short for an 8 lb rifle trigger.

If you just want it to be a bullet hose forget that other stuff and get a Ruger 25 rd magazine and good luck finding cheap ammo.

It's been awhile since I have shot my 10/22 (have two of them) but always had good luck with CCI Mini-Mag ammo.

I put a Williams peep sight kit that came with a fiber-optic front sight. Much, much better than the leaf/post system. There is a reason that virtually all modern military weapons use a peep/post sight.
I haven't put any money into my 10/22, but I will be getting one of those recoil pin sleeves.
