    AAP/Carquest Oil

I have been noticing more and more cross breeding between CARQUEST and AAP since the sale. One of the first things Ive noticed was the CARQUEST oil is now a different bottle and "Bottled for AAP" I knew CARQUEST used to be Ashland, but who is doing AAP's oil now? Ive always leaned toward...

    Why ATF in transfer case

Just curious why they recommend ATF in a lot of transfer cases instead of oil. I just rebuilt an NP242 transfer case, and I didn't see anything inside that would "need" ATF for the friction modification qualities.

    5w20 in hard endurance environment?

I don't know much about 5w20, but planning on running a 4.6 police interceptor in a long distance endure race this year. Basically ran as hard as it can for as long as it can, it the dead of summer Engine already has about 160k on it. See any reason to run anything other than a good 5w20?

    Jeep darkens oil fast

We have a couple vehicles, and for the most part the oil looks the same as it ages. I have a 94 Grand Cherokee 5.2 that just keeps going, so we run it. 210k. This engine however seems to darken the oil quickly. I have heard a few people talk about this, but is there more behind it than meets the...

    Breakin LD vs HD

Something I have always wondered, and hoping to gain some insight. If you read many new truck owners manuals, they recommend not pulling a trailer, or loading heavy within the first 1,000 miles or similar. While I understand the reasoning, why don't Heavy Duty Class 8 engines get the same...

    Those with older model Taurus's

Just had a thought, and maybe it will help someone. A large portion of Ford Taurus's prior to 2004 had extremely bad cooling systems that would turn the coolant to "chocolate milk." In a majority of the ones I have seen, this does not signify any potential engine problems, but it must be flushed...

    Restore Oil Additive

I added a can of restore to the grandsons cavalier, and ran it for a while performing a compression test before and after. It did in-fact raise the compression on a weak cylinder near what the others tested. My question is, does the stuff last?

    QSDefy vs PHM

I have tried searching different ways, with not real luck. Is Pennzoil High Mileage the same formula as QS Defy?

    PCMO vs go-kart Syn

The grandson races go-karts, and they have their own lines of Synthetic based engine oils. In that niche, it is hard pressed to find any of the names we do on the PCMO level. Names I constantly see are Cool Power, Power Plus, and FHS oils, but of course they are not sold in weights but rather...

Was there a personal all time best?

Best oil is a loaded question. However since really getting into this forum, Ive wondered if any of you have a brand/grade of oil that is NO LONGER MADE, that ranked high on your list. Every automaker has had that engine that was low maintenance, and just wouldn't stop. Was there an oil from...

    Oil/Filter/Engine?

Just returned from a 7,114 mile cross country trip in our 95 Chevy Sportvan, running the same batch of QS Defy 10w30. Oil hit long pull 13,600 mountains, and also 4 hours of stop and go in both Los Angeles and Chicago. Oil isn't overly dark, and I will be sending it in just for reference. It...

    2015 vehicles needing oil recommendation?

Im dumbfounded. Do that many people just get log in name to ask a question for their brand new car/truck? Seriously, "what oil for my 2015?" How about what the owners manual states, and your personal preference on bottle color. Im sure that a vehicle has went extremely high miles on every type...

    20wt vs 20w20

Always wondered the difference. I have seen bottles of both 20wt and a 20w20 but is there a difference? I use a 10wt in some of the gearboxes but its a non detergent. Never looked close enough at a 20wt to see if its a ND oil too

Is WalMart/discount chain oil the same?

Years ago I bought a washer at Lowes and while the same model number as the local mom and pop, it followed with an A. I needed a replacement part and went to the mom and pop only to learn the similar model sold by Lowes...ending in A, had some internal differences in part quality...plastic vs...

    205 deg thermostat...too hot?

I have a 95 chevy sportvan w/350, that prior to winter installed a 205 degree thermostat. IMHO it work perfect. heat stays in good range, nice heat, and better fuel mileage. Fast forward 2 weeks, we are driving cross country, and I noticed that many of the Midwestern and SW states are seeing...

    6,000 mile trip+95 Chevy Van=

Long time follower, first time poster. I have done quite a bit of searching the forums on an oil choice, but looking for a little better info. I have read that a good dino will go 6,000 miles of highway usage fairly easy, but most of the vehicles are already ones that are easy on oil anyways...
