    Procharger self contained oil

I tried searching for a thread on this and didn't find any which is a surprise to me. I figured it would have been discussed before. Anyways, are there any Procharged vehicles on this forum that use oil other than the proprietary Procharger oil? Has anyone ran a VOA on their brand oil? My head...

    Honda D16y7 (4cyl) oil/coolant consumption

My friend has a '99 Honda Civic, and I've been trying to help her fix an overheating issue. It turned out that it had a leaking heater hose, so I replaced it, drained and filled the radiator, and the overheating seems to be gone. However, while topping off the radiator with the engine...

    oil filter life

Hi all, I recently took advantage of the oil change deal at AAP and bought a K&N HP filter. Assuming that Pennzoil Platinum is used in the engine, how long will this filter last? If I decide to drain the PP at around 5k, can I re-use the filter?

    styrofoam in the barrel

Hi all, I recently picked up an SKS that I bought online and I just finished cleaning it. But I ran into a problem while cleaning. The gun was shipped with "popcorn" (styrofoam peanuts) in the box, and there was a piece stuck inside the barrel. The piece got pushed further in the barrel when I...

How do you rank your oils?

I noticed that NOACK volatility and VII have a positive correlation. So which would you rather have: more VI or a lower NOACK rating? Which is more relevant in a daily driver that sees occasional track duty?

    5w-30 cst

Do car manufacturers know the fact that 5w-30s (besides PAOs) shear to a 20w by then end of the OCI? Since I can't quite justify spending the money on Amsoil or Redline, I was pondering on the idea of running a Group III 10w-30 in my 2009 Nissan that call for 5w-30. And I wouldn't hesitate to...

    priming the oil pump

My Ford has an easily accessible fuel pump fuse, so each time I do an oil change I unplug it and run the starter for about 5 seconds. Is this going to enough to prevent a dry start? Should I even bother doing this?

    Driveway cleaners

Since we have a thread about cleaning the garage floor, why not have one about driveways. I learned the hard way that the drain plug washer on my Nissan has to be changed every oil change, and now there are oil spots on the driveway. I've tried brake cleaner, cat litter, and a brush but nothing...

Castrol Edge in a Ford Modular V8

So my Mustang has the 3v 4.6L and I recently changed the oil with Castrol Edge. In one of the currently active threads that discuss the new 0w-20 recommendation for Toyota, I'm seeing Edge is known to have high counts of magnesium. How well does magnesium mix in an aluminum block? Can I trust...

Fiat 124 Spider (and other roadsters like it)

Hi all, I saw one of those Fiats at a parking lot the other day, and immediately was attracted to it. I looked at ads on ebay and saw they're in the neighborhood of $3k and $7k, which is very affordable. So has anyone owned one of these before? How does it compare to a MG or a Triumph? Are...

coolant for a '99 Honda Civic SOHC (D16y7)

My friend needed help flushing the radiator in her car. She showed me the Prestone Extended Life she already got from Walmart and I looked for "diethylene glycol" in the ingredients list. And sure enough it was there. I wasn't sure if Honda intake manifold gaskets are designed to handle Dexcool...

Any body repair experts in here?

So I recently got myself into some financial burden. Some of my acquaintances and I were at a racetrack, and I ended up sliding into the infield retaining wall. The section of the wall that I hit had a stray plastic/rubber barrel sitting against the wall, which flew into the line of parked cars...

    First-gen Nissan Versa

I realize there is another thread about a Versa, but I didn't want to derail that one so I'm starting my own. I have the 1.8L version (MR18DE). I'm not sure what everyone else has, but in that other thread I saw that most Versa owners are using 5w-30, which is what the manual calls for...

    The Ford Focus

I am considering an early (2000-2004) Focus as a daily commuter. I've heard stories of folks with Escorts going 160k miles without any major issues; is the Focus the same way? Are there any Focus owners in here?

    Question about M1

I've been spending a good amount of time reading the UOAs from various vehicles that undergo various conditions and I'm consistently seeing high metal counts with M1, which is most likely old news for a lot of you. But at the same time I see a good number of folks here recommending M1 to people...

what does good oil pressure mean?

What is the acceptable range for "good" oil pressure? I've always seen the 10psi per 1000rpm rule, but then again I've seen a lot of cars getting 40+psi at hot idle. My Mustang idles at about 850 rpm, so that would mean 8.5psi is ok, but that seems low?

test n tune nights at the strip

I don't go to these very often for the sake of being able to daily drive my car for while, but I go 2-3 times a year to scratch the itch. And the traffic at the track is rather light, so on a given track day I can do about 10 runs in a hour. So I'd have plenty of time to do more but at that...

    Honda GX200 likes to stall

So I have a Honda knock off on a go kart, and it starts on first pull every time (knock on wood!). It revs and idles great until I unchoke the carb to get some more power. It stalls everytime the choke lever is past the halfway point. The spark plug, carb gaskets, and air filter were just...

spark plug trouble - help please

So everything was going well until I put the deep well socket into the spark plug bore, and once I realized that the socket was too big for the plug, it was already too late. The socket is now lodged inside the spark plug well and my ratchet extension can't catch it. I can't get the socket to...

    MT OCI?

So I realize that automatic transmissions experience much more heat than the manual counterparts. With that said, does the 15k-20k drain and fill still apply to manuals?
