    Castrol Flyer

Auto manufactures used to just put 3000 miles on their service manuals to protect themselves from various driving conditions. They pretty much determined that oil will protect the engine well enough at 3000 mile intervals within most normal driving. I see in some manuals now they break it out...

    UOA - Usless Oil Analysis?

Another thing to consider is sample variation. I see this from time to time at my place of work when I have different techs collecting oil samples. Even though we have precise procedures and the guys are trained there can be times when the sample is compromised and not known. It shows up in the...

    UOA - Usless Oil Analysis?

As mentioned UOA's are a good way to monitor oil health and can be an indicator for other potential problems but are general not comprehensive enough to determine all failures. I look at the UOA's here mostly to see how well an oil maintains its integrity within certain environments (driving...

    Auto-RX and water in oil

Again we all agree there is nothing to be worried about with mere condensation and ARX. But we just went into further discussion about water and ARX, that's all. It's not that ARX is competing for space its how it reacts with waters. I wasn't familiar with ARX, nor Lanolin esters which are not...

First oil analysis ever, trying to understand

I agree about not ignoring this report and looking for potential problems such as checking the air filter and other possible entries of dirt/silicon but I wouldn't spend a lot of money or time on 'fixes' until I verify that there is an issue and go from there. Just like tire wear you want to...

    06' Chevy oil filter ?

Dang.. wish I would have seen this before Saturday night. The filter fits so tight to the oil pan and I was thinking how I wished it was just a little longer to make it easier to change. Well at least I know now. Thanks for posting.

arx, will it cause an oil leak?

Now that my 3 kids are a little older I'm not looking forward to my car wetting itself! And I thought I was done with that.. geez

    Auto-RX and water in oil

You're right about the polarity issues. I'm not really familiar with Lanolin esters which Frank said made up the majority ARX but I know that diesters, phosphate esters and polyol esters can be affected greatly with the presense of water. They have what's called poor hydrolitic stability which...

arx, will it cause an oil leak?

Just ran across some information published by Noria that fit this topic. A statement they made was: "The esters will wet out and penetrate seals. The product will circulate with the oil and reach wherever the oil is supposed to reach. Esters will inherently perform the following: Increase the...

arx, will it cause an oil leak?

Fair enough. You just said "No that's not how it works" and to me that meant everything I stated was incorrect. I had no idea you were talking about the conditioner part. I'm not looking to argue and sorry if you felt personally attacked. It did come off stronger than attended.

arx, will it cause an oil leak?

Who knows what really occurred. It was just a general statement made about esters and what is true about esters. I never said ARX swells seals to fix leaks. I even said it may not occur based on concentration levels, etc. But the possibility was there. If a seal leaks then there is a path for it...

First oil analysis ever, trying to understand

Do an oil change with Maxlife Blend again, run it for 3K and do another UOA. Very tough to tell what's going on with 1 report and it doesn't appear that your engine is receiving any additional wear with the viscosity drop.

That's always a possibility. I have really never jumped to conclusions about an oil with VOA's and with how many reports from [censored] that seem to come in low in comparision to other reports; I really just look at them with nothing more than interesting reading. Don't get me wrong I keep a...

What Is Auto-Rx & What Does It Do ?

Just wanted to say thanks for providing more insight into ARX and what esters were used. I was always curious as to what esters it was made of and actually eases my mind with using the product. Thanks again.
