They say oil color means nothing....

I ran my Lincoln 4.6 four valve very hard, and with 9,000 mile plus OCI. Every oil analysis was noted that the oil (M1) could have lasted at least another 2000. I run Mobil 1 to 10000 regularly and have yet to see M1 oil that is not up to that mileage, at least. The dark oil means the oil is...

    Average OCI for those here?

I change when the engine is a quart low, which is 8500 on my Dodge and 9500+ on my Element. That way, I don't waste the quart of Mobil 1 for a few thousand miles use. The UOA always tells me to extend my OCI 2000 miles.

so why are so many ripped at Mobil?

All the rampant speculation based upon the suppossed accusations of a competitor, and the statements condemning ExxonMobil for making the same molecule out of a different base stock, have largely driven me from participation in this forum. It's now a lot overbearing, blustering "snobs" and...

When to do first oil analysis?

I have a 06 Honda, and changed it out at 1800 miles. The analysis came back that it was regular Mobil 5000 oil with leftover assembly lube (heavy Moly). The use of any other high quality oil is fine, and does not affect break in. My engine was not fully broken in until 7500 miles or thereabouts...
