That GL must be a HOOT to drive!!

I really don't think that ARX is a necessity in this particular engine, they are very tough and not prone to any sludge or varnish buildup. I am running ARX in mine only to try to help a few seal leaks before replacing them.
Agreed, the Subie engines (turbo or NA) just don't like the M1 5w-30 for some reason.
Hmph... didn't know that (thought they all were), but never had to pull the heads on mine, either.
When I ran M1 5w-30, car always lost that smooth feeling after 3-4000 miles. Never had trouble with the 10,000 oci on M1 10w30. All valves were within factory spec cleranaces at 90,000 miles, and there was 0 buildup, staining, deposits at that time.

I may be wrong, but I have never seen an oil clean up a dirty motor. Tried this with a used accord. After 30,000 on M1 5w-20, it *might* have lightened the color of the varnished metal... but did little else for cleaning. Ran very smoothly and quietly, tho!
The 2.2 is also a popular candidate for VW van transplants. I love the torque curve which is more like a 6 cyl than a 4. I really, really enjoyed that engine-- moreso than the rest of the car.
