I will be taking over oil changes on my mothers new 2017 GMC Terrain with the 2.4 ecotec. As far as oil, I only know it requires a form of Dexos 5w30, I am looking to find out what spec it needs specifically. Dexos1, Dexos2 etc. Also, what brand cartridge oil filter to you all recommend. I have always used Fram Ultra spin on's, but I recall some years ago the Fram Ultra cartridges compressing too much in the Ecotec applications, is this still an issue? If so, what other brands come highly recommended? Final question, what size is the oil drain plug on these? Thanks in advance!

It should be a 15 mm socket. 18 ft/lbs if you like to torque. 5 quart oil capacity with filter.

Oil and drain plug have been covered. I typically used AC Delco filters. With a cartridge type the filter is a less important consideration.
You will need a ratchet, extension, and swivel adapter to change the filter. And one of these, well worth it (pretty sure this is the right one)...
