An oldie but goodie.

At 2:17, the presenter goes over a few OE filter end caps. Interesting.

It's really amazing how many "Fram is crap" videos are out there because of the fiber end caps. I thought K&N AF had it rough but consumers are bombarded with misinformation on these filter.

The only problem I ever had with the orange cans was a rattle @ startup due to the anti drain back valve not holding the oil in.

I've never liked the uber thin cans on these filters.

I don't care what they say; I'm not buying a filter that has no metal end caps.

Absolutely. Metal end caps are superior. Just look at Purolator. wink

I’ll take an AC Delco Professional like 53 Stude cut open over an Orange FRAM any time.

Fram probably outsells other brands at least 2:1 and the statistics don't support the notion that Fram is an inferior construction.

How do they justify the lack of filter media against the (often lower priced) competition

I haven't bought a filter with a metal end cap for years. It's either plastic like on my BMW or none at all.

Would I get more miles out of my cars if my filters had metal end caps?

"I'll buy a filter with thin paper load bearing media, but will not buy a filter with significantly thicker fiber end caps that bear significantly less load!"

And notice right where most of those infamous filters tear ...

I cut some new ones just to see how easy it was ... we have tougher paper on the Xerox machine ... The blended filters are another story ... they seem to have tensile strength ...

So the top filters like a M1 or Amsoil Ea have metal end caps. So I will conclude that manufacturers feel the metal end caps are better.

However the cardboard end caps are probably fine for normal OCI.

An oil change with a Fram orange can is better than no oil change.
