Acetone in fuel research paper

Acetone has less BTUs per gallon compared to gas(about 90k vs 120k), and it's much more expensive. I've heard acetone has quite a high octane rating, but can't find a solid answer or source. In a normal street engine, adding acetone gets you lower mpg, as can be seen in many tests, including the famous Mythbusters episode.

Acetone seems to be a very, very good FI system cleaner, so some of the 'benefit' is just it cleans out a lot of deposits that may cause problems, like poor mileage or detonation.

Acetone works well for turning a tankful of "summer gas" into "winter gas" for vehicles that don't get driven a lot.

It's also great for dumping into a tank of gas that has sat for a LONG time (but hasn't turned into total varnish just yet)

Lacquer thinner also does both - - but I don't know if it affects octane (good or bad)
