After upgrading MS Office to Office 2016 i cannot open one Word document.
ERROR MESSAGE: Unreadable file

I need to open my important data stored within the document. help

What is the file's extension?

Try opening it with LibreOFfice or Notepad++ both are free

Try to open with WordPad and see if it helps, email to your friend and see if it can be opened there.

One can still buy full versions of Office and not use Office 365 at this point.

Why, would you 1st post about a non readable computer file be made in a forum for engine oil? I would think you would look towards a computer forum 1st.

I would download and install the free LibreOffice program and open it with that.

Quick fix:
Email the file to yourself and open on another computer
or as mentioned download another program (I use Apache open office)

Try to open it with OpenOffice or LibreOffice. I found that those can sometimes open files that Word cannot.

Also you can recover Word document here https://www.fixtoolbox.com/wordfix.html

Than re-open the file.
