Hello everyone and happy hump day. Later this month we plan on going on a weekend trip to Atlanta to see a Braves game. We will be renting a car for the trip, not because we need too, but just for fun. I was originally going to try to get a sports sedan but few rental agencies seem to stock them, and anything they consider "sporty" comes with a hefty price. After looking around on various sites it seems that renting from our local airport seems to have the best rates, and Enterprise seems to have the best reviews. So the classes that I am looking at are full size, premium sedan, and luxury sedan.

I kind of know what to expect for full size, its usually an Altima or Fusion. Premium I don't really know what to expect, it says Maxima or similar. Luxury however, I really don't know. So I'd like to see what you all end up getting when renting a luxury sedan from Enterprise or other car rental agency. I just don't want to end up in a "boat" on wheels. If thats the case I'd rather get a premium class which I imagine would be more fun to drive.

So for those of you who rent in the luxury sedan class, what car did you end up getting?

Sorry that I can't chip in about renting a luxury sedan, but I also found that renting at our nearby airport was MUCH cheaper than renting from the little offices scattered around the city. A coworker hit me in the parking lot and I was nice enough to let him pay for the damage out of pocket rather than going to insurance. HR was aware of the situation and I'm sure I could have got him in major hot water if he had tried to mess me around...anyway, I called around since I was arranging the rental myself and the airport was the best deal by far. Kind of surprised me because it is sort of a captive market, but there is also competition mere feet away...

Last time I rented with Enterprise they upgraded me from a Altima/Fusion/Sonata to a MB CLA250 4matic since they were out of cars. The only other "Luxury" class car they offer in that category is the Buick Lacrosse and the Maxima I believe. At least that's what was offered here in Vancouver.

In regards to pricing, I agree. The airports seem to have much better pricing than the smaller locations (at least when I booked a car in Vegas). In Canada it's the other way around. The airport is usually more expensive (makes no sense, since most of their inventory is stored at the airport lots (very large) anyway). I suppose they are just taking advantage of the advantage of charging the most for the ability to pickup and drop off at the terminal.

EEp I'm still stuck in the 2nd millennium. An Altima is considered a full size? What would a '75 LTD wagon be? Get a Luxo barge like an Escalade or a big RWD anything. Wabbout a stretch limo and driver?

A Luxury class car from Enterprise is typically a Dodge Neon with a leather shift knob and alloy wheels.

Hah, I can only imagine what the compact class was, a Ford KA? lol.

Close. Last time I reserved luxury class from Enterprise for a long weekend, the website showed a Cadillac and a Lincoln. Underneath, it said "or similar".
When I went to pick up the car, they gave me a Dodge Charger SE, the base model. They said it was in the luxury class; I told them funny how they only showed pictures of Cadillacs and Lincolns for luxury. They said that's what they had, I said my Taurus will do just fine since my Taurus must be a luxury car, too.
Never went back.

A few years ago I got a black on black Caddy DTS for a special occasion in FLA - that was horrid. No Low end torque, uninspiring trash.

I've enjoyed Gran Marquis or LeSabre - but they are both gone.

I would want, I suppose a Lexus LS460 or a Merc E class or a Bimmer 5 series, Maybe a Jag XF ?? or a Maserati Quattro Porte Gran Sport. Actually, I wouldn't wish to rent and drive $$$ cars in areas I am unfamiliar with.

U = Car jack target.

Lasst tiem in FLA the best rental; was a fresh Dodge Charger V6 pentastar. All you would want or need. That was a ringer engine in that one, a real scorcher. Made all of 300 HP and that's a lot of horses. A little suspension work and that would be amazeballs.

I'm not sure if the CLA250 is really a luxury car.

Enterprise once upgraded me for free on a trip to Dallas. This was about 3 years ago. I was given a BMW. I believe it was a 328i. It was very nice. Never left "sport" mode:)

Greg,

Enterprise has a great weekend rental program that starts on Friday morning and ends Monday morning. The rate is $10/day(plus taxes and a bunch of misc fees) but you can upgrade to something much nicer for modest charges. Kind of like, lets make a deal. The promotion is only good at the non-airport locations.

Although airport locations seem to get the Luxury cars.

It isn't. They only offered that to me since they were out of cars. At $20/day with unlim mileage I was happily motoring along the snowy mountain roads. Sure it was fun to rent for a couple of days, but on an extended trip I'd rather have something like the Maxima/Lacrosse.

I can't even remember what class I asked for, they gave me a little hatchback Mercedes that was nothing like any Benz I had ever seen in the US.
There was nothing remarkable about it in the slightest, not very powerful or luxurious...it got me around through Perugia, Ravenna, Verona, Venice, Brescia, and Milan. I would guess I asked for a midsized something since I am a big ol Merican and knew that many Euro cars were tiny.

I was very disappointed, the nicest cars I saw in Italy were Audi A8s. Didn't seen any supercars at all.

Call your CC issuer. Over the weekend, Amex was able to ensure that we ended up in the convertible mustang we wanted, that was one of the "possible" vehicles in the class we reserved. Your card issuer may be able to help with the same.

How does that work?

You should also check that the "free" insurance from your CC covers "luxury" or "SUV". Many do not.
