Excerpt from link above...
"The next chapter in Volkswagen's American story may have a lot to do with what transpires this weekend in a Las Vegas hotel ballroom.

It's where senior VW executives will face a gathering of dealers who have been stewing for years over unfulfilled ambitions, red ink and broken promises. They will try to make the case that they can rebuild the battered brand and justify the $1 billion dealers have invested in it over the past 10 years.

It may be their last shot..."

For some strange reason lots of people in the US like to hate
VW, even though today they make cars that are on par in reliability with the better asian makes, and have better driving dynamics and competitive prices, and unlike Honda, Toyota, Ford, GM Chrysler, their
diesel emissions debacle hasn't actually killed anyone.

VW will be in the USA for a long time to come....not going anywhere no matter what the competition would like to believe. LOL

I don't think VW is going to make it here. If they do not make it here, will they be alive at all a few years from now?

VW Group is (sometimes) the largest automaker on the planet and currently sells over 10 million vehicles annually. You really think they are going to disappear in a few years?

While vw will be around they will have closed franchises and won't gain back the 25% sales loss with tdi products. I concur the compact Jetta /golf / sportwagen and Tiguan are competitive. However the Passat and lack of any other decent SUV offerings they will languish. VW cannot figure out the US market and likely won't in the 5 years.

This is absolutely true, I'd say the US ranks as a developing third world country when it comes to the passenger vehicle market.

Look at all the interesting products other countries get that we will never see, even though in many cases they surpass what is currently on the market here.

But I think VW will stay in the US market for the sake of pride, if nothing else. When you consider that the Toyota Camry, Ford F-150 Toyota Corolla and a bunch of bloated CUV/SUV are the biggest sellers why bother making too much of an effort.

The replacement technology is supposed to be the e-golf. Well...

Volkswagen recalls 5,600 U.S. electric vehicles for stalling issue

http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSL2N17012V

Every single one sold in the US. Recalled.

My opinion? They will remain in the US. But their driving dynamic mantle has been taken over by Mazda, and endearing quirkiness, by Subaru. They need to reestablish a niche and not worry about outselling Toyota at Toyota's game.

The main problem was VW intentionally violates the emission laws of US and other countries.
