Only meets older Euro specs though on almost all counts.

Cool!

What are the specs for it? I don't see it on amsoil.com.

It's not on the market yet. Just a tease picture from the catalog. Oct 15 as it says.

Ball park: Low SAPS oils are 600-800 ppm. Full SAPS ~1200-1400+ ppm

The cost of the full saps is $7.40. Probably a group III blend. Nice! They sort of needed a full sap x40.

The additives for the low sap are probably more expensive, hence the cost difference.

Pablo. Can you confirm group 3 or 4? Regardless this is most likely a great oil. Hopefully it competes with M1 0w40. If it does ill be using it. Have been waiting for a real euro oil from amsoil!

Yes! Finally ! they lack a 5W40 full saps ... I like the MB229.5 suitable for AMG models among others.
Hey Pablo would this be the same base stock as the XL and OE? you'd think so by the price...is it gr III or III+/GTL.

As far as I know MB229.5 is only attainable with PAO and GTL period. I have the white paper somewhere...

Did you notice the Dexos 2 on the MID saps? Has it been reformulated or just tested and labeled? I'm glad they added it anyhow.

I do not know the formula. I suspect a blend of several/many basestocks, but this is only speculation.

Looks similar to the AFL, 5w-40, but with higher additive treat levels. I'd say predominately Group III.

FP of 428F and PP of -38F.

Finally saw it on the site. Looks pretty good to me. Nice TBN and general specs. Have a stash of M1 0w40, but might have to try this out. Even if it is group 3, still looks like a performer with a nice add pack.

The price is nice too. Even without the PC discount it's just over $7! Seems like a bargain!

Wow...with a price like that, this is most likely my next oil. That's about the same as I pay for M1 on sale, and I have complete confidence this will work nicely in my application. Very good play, Amsoil.

It's using a more traditional additive package - good amount of Ca and ZDP

.. and today we have a new AEL a bit modified as well... ;-) worse Noack but better for winter and maybe MPG ;-)

The new AFL seems to be the same with a new label and API SN + Dexos2.

So, it seems the new EMF 5w-40 is like an OE Euro oil. That really confuses already confusing Euro spec oils.

Not so confusing. Give better coverage for applications that don't need a low SAPS oil.

I think it's a bit confusing. The differences between OE, XL, Signature and Z-rod is easy to understand, and the racing oil. There is now 2 5w40 Euro oils, and the Cheaper one says it is Full SAPS (full sounds like it is better than Mid and most people do not know what SAPS means or what SAPS level they need) So, Full is more than Mid, sound better right? Wait, it's Cheaper? So, I do believe it is a bit more confusing.

The people who buy these two oils are Euro car owners. They will choose based on the particular OEM specification that each of these oils meets and not based on the word "full" or "mid" anyway.

How would name the two to make it less confusing?

Maybe it is more about an area of protection not a level:
AFL - engine + TWC/DPF (cars MY 2006-> ?)
EFM - engine mainly where TWC/DPF is not present so saps limit not so critical?

Both may deliver similar level of engine protection and deposit control but in different way - different formula.

Additional expensive equipment like TWC/DPF needs more expensive oil ;-)

Am I right Pablo?

Not all TWC need mid-SAPS, in fact most of them don't.
Just like VW 505.01 oils that switched from full to mid saps with no DPF to protect...for that same TWC reason I reckon.
It's a pity Amsoil missed the opportunity to include VW 505.01 in their full-SAPS 5W-40. More zinc is needed there.

I have done 40.000 K,s on this oil in my 2007 Jeep grand Cherokee CRD The odometer is at 240,000
I have added a provent 200 and had a green diesel flash tune added mainly to turn of the EGR did use a bit of oil probably 3 litres in that 40,000 had 3 changes in that distance as well
I change the oil and filter every 15,000 k,s the book recommend every 20,000 I personally feel that's a bit long dropped it to 15,000 k,s about due for another change might try a 10w40 this time no need for thin oil
Where I live the coldest it gets is 10 degrees Celsius and that would be at 3 o'clock in the morning by the time I wake up and get driving its already 18 to 20 degrees so personally don't think the lighter viscosity for cold starts is necessary after posting on the forum before asking this question

I have been using the Amsoil 5W-40 full saps European in my
'14 SRT jeep Grand Cherokee and have been quite happy with it.
First few oil changes I used the SRT recommended Penzoil Ultra
0W-40. As I have an oil catch can to protect the throttle
body from gunking up from recycling sump gases I noticed when
emptying the oil catch can that it contained a yellow paste, butter
like rather than oil. Since I have gone to the Amsoil this has
gone back to normal oil in the catch can. I have not done a UA
as the car has less then 10k but next change I will do a UA
and see how it holds up. I change twice a year with a Amsoil
filter. The engine seems quite happy with this oil and is
quite quiet when I'm not into it's 470hp. (G) If there are any
issues with the UA I will report it here.

With the rather decent sump size it is surprising the PU 0w-40 did not hold that well (as per your oil catch can observations). Do you feel that the 0w-40 was cooking out the yellow paste while this 5w-40 from Amsoil is a more robust formulation, specifically because it is a 5w-40 full saps motor oil?
And what were your oil drain intervals with the Penzoil Ultra?
