Well I finally did. I got around to cutting open the Pronto filter off my truck tonight. Not much special. After a year, the nitrile ADBV was still nice and soft. The media was somewhat wavy, likely more a problem with moisture in the oil than the original construction. The truck sets a lot and does a lot of short trips. Maybe I need to get a sample off to Blackstone and makes sure it isn't coolant. It had about as much media as anything has any more. Since I first started cutting filters open over 10 years ago, I have noticed less and less filter media. Could mean they are cheapening them, or less of a better media. The newer filter designs have less media than the older ones. The very low stressed engine in my truck originally used a PF 9 with more area than anything. The Iron duke in my daughter's Berreta used a smaller PF52. The highly stressed HO Quad 4 in my Grand AM used the next smaller PF 47. I am pasting in data I have been collectign for a long time if anybody is interested. Any fool with a hacksaw and tape measure can determine how much filter area a filter has. How much difference that makes? Who knows? You can also tell what the end cap is made of for what that is worth.

I went back with Mobil 1 0W-30 and a NAPA Gold filter, perhaps my last one. Dome end bypass and a bad thread. I had to clean it up before I could get started on the nipple. Neither Wal*Mart or anybody else here stocks any 0W-30. Had to hit an out of town Wal*Mart. Wanted to let people know how my Pronto did.

*The AC, Hastings, and Fram all said PURFLUX L264A on the end of the plastic housing.
**Interesting 1 piece of rubber for both valves
***The media was noticable thinner than the others
****9-04 newer black case

The Wix for my daughters Chevy Cobalt is made in Korea. I bought it after reading about Wix being quality USA made. I tossed it and went back to the Delco Pf457g (cartridge, no can) made here in the USA... I use Pure 1 too. Also USA made.
