I think Ralph might have been better served with machining them a little looser ..so that they slid on ..and just sell them and a Viton or Teflon gasket (which I really don't think would be necessary). He said that he didn't want to do that. I think he really enjoyed doing the work.

I hope he's doing well.

Alternatives to Oil Changes

The oil change industry has a perfect system that has worked to
their advantage for many years especially since 1953. The
consumer is sold filters that don't clean oil, after the oil
getsw dirty and wears the engine the consumer is sold an oil
change and another filter that doesn't clean oil. Forty years ago
there was only about one oil filter available capable of
eliminating "routine" oil changes. Now there are several. Sadly
the consumer has adapted to the cost and nuisance of allowing oil
to get dirty and then draining it to the point where anyone that
mentions that filters are supposed to get dirty and be changed
and oil is supposed to stay clean and not be changed is
considered either an idiot or a crook.
Now fortunately the government is starting to do something to
clean up their act. The National Park Service is going to re
refined oil. It is called a closed loop system where the oil is
changed and the used oil is returned to the refinery to be
refined again. Re refined oil is far superior to virgin oil.
Every time motor oil is refined it gets better.
Another even better system is now being used by some major oil
companies on their own equipment, the US Air Force, US Army
National Guard, US Coast Guard and others is to add a superior
filtration system and never allow the oil to become dirty because
of poor filtration. The filters are changed when they get dirty.
A sample of oil is sent to a lab to be analyzed. If the lab finds
a problem caused by a leaky head gasket or other mechanical
problem the oil is changed and a repair made. Some vehicles have
gone more than 1,000,000 miles with no oil changes. A lab can
tell you which parts are wearing, how good your oil is, the
additives still in the oil, etc.
I can furnish information or answer questions.

Oh, the last time I talked to him (2005-2006?) he sold me some nylon or delrin adapters. Now the big problem is that Scott and others have replaced the 4.5" wide TP with 4.0".

If 4.5" TP becomes unavailable, then what are we going to do?
