Old school service manuals (John Deere comes to mind) used to recommend putting a brush-on sealer like Permatex Hi-Tack on the hose nipple before slipping the hose on. This might help prevent the seepage.
I haven't had to really reef on worm gear hose clamps to make them seal. I do go back and verify their tightness when I'm doing tune-ups, etc.
