Despite the rain, this Z28 managed to shave a few seconds off the still-impressive 7:41.27 run a Camaro ZL1 laid down in 2011. Chevrolet is quick to point out that the Z28's time is a bit better than the 991 Porsche 911 Carrera S and a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, and we can add the Lexus LFA and Ford GT to the list of cars the Camaro bests.

A lowly Camaro beat the LFA and Murcielago? Yikes.

Very impressive! The new Camaro, although incredibly ugly, is a formidable force on the road course, no doubt about that!

Except that all those other cars they claim to have beaten come with standard AC, radio, sound deadening, etc...

The LFA took 10 years to develop and cost 4 times as much. They needed Yamaha to design the engine using F1 technology, and it uses exotic material to save weight. There should be no excuses for getting beat by a Camaro.

So give it that stuff and take it out on a day with no rain. I bet it does just as well.
AC and radio won't do squat to hurt that time. Sound deading may add some time but if they could can keep it straight it will do just as well.

Ugly is subjective...I think it looks great.

It sure is Mike, no argument here. I personally like the looks of the Mustang and Challenger better. But there is no arguing the performance figures for the Camaro, they are impressive

It was a no-expense-spared halo car. They knew it was going to be ridiculously expensive and complex, but that's the whole point of it.

I agree with that, but you then have to take the Z28 for what it is. A realtivly cheap car that gets the job done better then those extoics on a track. That is the point of it.

no doubt a fast car.

and especially because it is so fast. it,s such a shame the finnish looks like somebody put it together with his feet.

It looks like a squished Trailblazer, LOL! There's nothing wrong with my eyes, I just think its competition is far better looking

You can't tell how ugly it is when you're sitting in it. And besides, imagine how much the Porsche owner you just dusted will hate looking at your taillights.

When compared to the softly sprung GT version which was designed for cruising. The LFA track pack did it in 7:14 and some change.

Apples and oranges though, no one in the real world cross shops such cars.

More importantly I wonder if the Radical's were just videos of the Stig commuting to work?

No thanks.

Its a track/race car compared to more civilized GT cars:

Quote:
In keeping with the less-weight mantra there is no carpet in the trunk and no interior sound deadening material, a one-speaker sound system and thinner rear glass on the Z/28. The front seats use manual adjusters. The pass through was eliminated from the rear seat back and foam replaces some rigid structure in the rear seats. Fog lights and HID headlights are not available and the needed wiring was taken out of the harness. Air conditioning is optional.

Tin can albeit a fast one if tracking is your thing.
