Yes, it does; pretty dirty 1 day old oil to boot.

For some reason poster indicates this made him waste 8 qts of oil; how, i have no idea.

Yeah, it does look a little suspicious. However, could it be something like a weak crimp joining the can and the base plate, causing it to separate upon tightening (perhaps a little over-tightening going on, but still)?

Hard to say, more details from the video poster would be nice. With all the Fram complaints I've seen, this is a new one.

I think the crimp joint is actually up closer to the top in that video. It's hard to tell for sure though, since it's kind of low res and jumpy. But where the oil seeps out... that seems like an especially large crimp joint. And it seems to be a bit ragged also.

If I'm wrong, and what I think is a cut is actually a crimp joint, I have to assume that this is a factory defect and not typical. If it is typical, well... I don't know what to say.

That sure looks like a cut line up near the top of the filter.
IMHO this video is staged to make Fram look bad for whatever reason.

Looks like a steaming pile of... You get the idea.

I'd believe this if they are running the engine RPMs up towards redline and the filter can't handle it and busts a leak, but at idle? Come on...

Also, what are those crimp marks on the filter in the video? I can't seem to find a picture of another toughgard that has those. They almost look like marks from a pair of pliers or something.

Watched this video full screen on a 23 inch monitor several times. I have no doubt whatsoever the filter was cut.

I recommend a mod delete this whole thread.

It definitely doesn't look like a regular TG. either it was tampered with or it is a defect that got passed quality control.

Defective products do happen, so its possible to have a bad filter with a bad weld but this clearly looks like it was faked.

That line looks so suspicious I think I might have to look at a Tough Guard tonight over at the Pep Boys. I have never seen a line like that on one. Correct me if I am wrong.

Seeing this video, I drove over to the Pep Boys in Rosemead, CA right now to look at several Tough Guards, as I wanted to get some milk at the Ralph's Supermarket in Temple City.

I have used this kind of filter in the past as well as various other brands.

My opinion:

This filter in the video has obviously been cut open previously. The black seam you see the oil leak from does not exist on any Fram Tough Guard I have ever seen.

Either this filter was cut open by someone and put back in the box as a prank or this is a video made to damage Fram's reputation by fraud.

Some people like Fram and some hate them; some are indifferent. Companies do compete, and fair is fair. If people have a legitimate beef with Fram that is one thing. Manufacturing false stuff is another, and this video suggests strongly, that, whatever its demerits, the Tough Guard is a good filter. After all, you can deliberately damage any filter and say that it is not up to snuff.

^^Yep. You can tell it was cut very precisely around the base.
