New vehicle: $25,000
Maintenance over it's lifetime: $10,000
Changing the filter: priceless

No. No. No. Spend the $6-8.

However, I also use Pureone's for 10k runs on both cars. But if you're under the rig and changing the oil at 4k, change the filter too or you will worry about it until 8k. If you continue your short OCI's go with the white can Purolators.

You probably could.
I did 2x 5000 mile runs on a EaO. The UOA and filter were unremarkable.
If you decide to run it twice, I recommend not removing it; the gasket is only designed with one use in mind. You wont really get much oil out of it anyways. So keep that in mind when contemplating it.

I would change it without qustion, as I always do.
Could you run it longer?
Almost certainly, but why would you?

I like to get 10,000 miles out of a filter. i try to find an oversized one. for instance, Edge and Mobil EP are suposedly good for 15,000 miles, and they don't say on the bottle that you have to change your filter more often, so i think a filter is probably good for up to 15,ooo miles. however, i would not push it with some of the very tiny filters they have now, or if the engine is in bad condition. usually i find a filter is good for two or three normal oil changes of 3-5000 miles.

I'll back Johnny 200% on this one. When you take a shower do you put your dirty underwear and clothes back on? No you don't. Same principal. Change the filter!

My entire life i have always changed my filter with my oil. I recently bought a mercury with a filter that makes a mess and is difficult to get to. It is going to do two runs. I run the oversize filter anyhow. I have pulled the filter out after 8k mile runs and it dont look any different than a 3k run. Im pretty convinced that we really over change filters. I have no proof of that but i know many people that run very long ocis over 10k and i dont know of any time that the filter could not handle it. On the flip side, there cheap and if you can get to it easy, why not.

Just use a standard filter, like a Proselect or Supertech for such low mileage and change the filter each time.

New vehicle $25,000
New Windshield ~500 installed
New wipers $10

There is NO reason not to use new wipers every time it rains !! I'm just trying to prove a point, no hard chain yanking intended..

I run my filter for two consecutive OCI's when running conventional that's two 7500 mile OCI's =15k on a filter. I'm astonished my way of think is so alone as much as synthetic is pushed on this forum for extended oil drains (pretty much the main reason other than more protection you will never obtain) yet noone has the nerve to follow many owners manuals running a filter for two oil changes..

Run the filter twice, there is no reason at all to replace a filter that has 4000 miles on it in a normal operating engine. It will save you time, money, maybe be every so slightly easier on the environment, resources etc etc etc.

Is there any documented proof that running a oil filter for two OCI's causing any problems, reducing engine life, or any of the other bad juju stuff ?

Here's the easier way to view using a filter over two sump drains. Take your CURRENT OCI for oil and filter. You're comfy enough, right? Fully confident that both are just dandy over the time and mileage you use them, right? No questions ..no reservations ..you're 100% centered on the topic and anyone else is out in left field (this is, btw, how everyone reasons everything

) Now just decide, for no good reason whatsoever, to under utilize the oil by 50%. Same filter ..used for the EXACT same time/mile period. Only the oil was under utilized to your former 100% satisfaction.

Now replace your criteria with someone who qualifies for a 12-15k/ONE year OCI with the way they're racking up mileage in the sweet spot. They can't quite mentally manage the full ONE YEAR on the oil, even though they know that they could. So, instead, they opt for 6month oil and a one year (in their case) filter.

See how easy that was to figure out?

It's not putting on dirty underwear after a shower. You guys are just showering at twice the "normal" daily underwear (wink:wink) interval rate

Boy, you're very presumptuous as to the condition of my pre-worn drawers!
