Very well put Pablo, I bet most of us know that, I wonder if quality ever enters the picture though.

That GT-1 oil is really good. All of CP's oils are very good at least based on UOA's I've seen on here.

It's kind of odd that they have two syns. It's like Pennzoil only more confusing. I was also a little disappointed that the "Liquid Titanium" (whatever the heck that is) has no mention of ACEA rating and doesn't state that it meets the usual tough specs that syns usually advertise. For that, you need the "Ultimate" at it is only ACEA A1 and not A5. (If I'm going to use a syn, I want to extend my drains a little so I look at ACEA ratings.) GM 4718M is good though.

It also says "The Liquid Titanium additive enhancement provides increased engine protection by forming a strongly bonded titanium shield on the surface of critical engine parts..." Really? Would anybody really want liquid metal bonding to their engine parts? I know that CP makes good oil (and gas) and this is just marketing but they make sound like snake oil.

I think they need to look at what everybody else is doing with their syns and beef up their line. Everybody's GM 4718M and ACEA A5, if not more. Even M1 which was an ACEA A1 hold out is now A5.

I imagine that it all came down to a question of which supplier offered the best price and terms for a given level of performance. Historically, Honda's re-branded conventional oils seemed to look pretty much like Mobil 5000 in a different package. Nothing special.

CP did a lot of development work on 5W-20 oils with Ford many years ago when 5W-20 was a radical move. Honda has followed Ford with the adoption of 5W-20 for most US applications. It isn't shocking that CP was willing to make a more agressive play for the Honda business than XOM was.
