Would you trust this filter?

Filter bottomed out on mount, the gasket did compress but all past filters used never bottomed out.

Yes the gasket is there just compressed all the way down, didn’t over tighten the filter either.

Try a Microgard Select from O'reilly's next time. If you intend to keep running it just keep a very good eye on it.

The oe Toyota filters do that on ours. Fram,wix and Baldwin don't.

What do you mean, it stopped threading ? The threaded portion is a thru-hole so the stud will just extend past the threads on the inside. Shouldn't be any harm in that as it's typically wide open space in there.

Then I say, good to go. You checked for leaks as is best practice after install. No leaks then you're set. If it makes you feel better, as WW said, check occasionally.

If it's not leaking after a cold start and drive when the oil pressure would be the highest, you should be ok. Personally would have used a Toyota filter myself.

Like mentioned if it's got a decent seal it shouldn't leak. Just keep an eye on it before you fire it up each time.

No, because compression of the gasket was limited by the edge of the can bottoming out on the mounting base, not by torque applied or the angle of rotation beyond gasket making contact. Results will depend on whether gasket was compressed adequately.

OP - how much did the filter turn from first gasket contact with the mount to where the can bottoming out? Was it less than 1 turn? If so, I would contact Fram and let them know.

The older OG Ultras I've used at 3/4 turn leave only about 0.5 mm (0.020") of air gap between the filter mount and filter can edge. If I was to go 1 turn or more, it would probably be contacting the filter mount.

It was almost a full turn.

Yes the gasket is there just compressed all the way down, didn’t over tighten the filter either.

DENSO oil filters have a built in stop that prevents over tightening. You're good. Regards

I check with paper towel tightly wrapped around base of filter for possible leak / seep of oil . May get some oil a few times after O.C. from the oil applied to the gasket . Better to be safe than sorry .
