If the frame managed to rust to the point of needing replacement, imagine how bad thinner metal on the truck must be. It's probably ate-up with car cancer. Crossmembers, fender attachment hardware, fender liners...I have a bad mental image of this poor truck.

I just got off the phone with my sister's service writer at Milton Martin Toyota in Gainesville, GA. They do all the maintenance on my sister's '01 Tacoma. He stated he wasn't aware of any updates to the 1995 - 2000 Tacoma recall to include a 2002 Tacoma. This must be a very special (and bad) case to get a fix and warranty from Toyota on a 2002.

They are including '01 to '04 trucks too. '00 and older trucks are bought back and crushed, and '01 to '04 trucks get new frames I believe.

My understanding was that those vehicles were being bought back by Toyota, not repaired.

No, I would not buy it for $5000.

thanks everyone . This truck I'm talking of is owned by an acquaintance that found out his TACOMA's frame is rotted . We're trying to persuade him to trade it in and not to resell it . Which may be a difficult task and could end up getting less than the trade in value from TOYO sales after the whole frame is replaced by dealer . THANKS AGAIN TO ALL .

We plan to show him this thread . May help change his tune . Especially the VIDEO . THANKS .

Let me see...
My otherwise in perfect shape truck with 90,000 miles is goona' get a brand spankin' new frame with an installed value of $11,500 for free?? I'm getting new crossmembers, brake lines and mounts as well and a muffler for parts cost only. So... I'll have a virtual new truck that will last 15 years more, easily! I was going to stop with the synthetics for entire driveline but it sure looks like I'll be needing the protection I've bought as I fully expect 300,000 out of this purchase. Thanks for producing links RANGER! This post made a good weekend great! I know there are many here among us to whom Toyotas are but a joke, but for most people a little Tacoma is more than adequate for the average guy. Come to think of it the only reason I got rid of any vehicle was frame integrity and it sure looks like Toyotas' boxed design although much stronger with less material had a glaring flaw in it's trapped moist, corrosive air. I'll bet they stick with a heavy "C" channel from now on?

With car/truck prices in the dump, why would you even consider buying that truck ?

Theres tons of trucks out there without damage/rust to look at and buy.
