I just used the brush that it came with. A few light coats and then a coat of touch up clear coat, and then applied some wax. The touch up paint seems to be really good. Im glad too, because it wasn't cheap.

Does the mequiars compound kill the shine? Would I have to use a polish to bring back the shine after using the compound?

Get both the UC and UP but for experimentation if you really want to. The UC will NOT kill the shine but there will be some marring of the finish.
